Jazz Finally Finds Its Way to Choiseul

Jazz Finally Finds Its Way to Choiseul

Choiseul on the Move

For years, Choiseulians have asked one simple question: When will Jazz come to Choiseul?

Year after year, the celebrated Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival made its rounds across the island, bringing music, culture and excitement to several communities, while Choiseul remained on the outside looking in. The closest the district ever came to enjoying that true Jazz atmosphere was a semblance of the festival at Balembouche. It gave a taste, yes, but many people still felt that Choiseul deserved an official session of its own.

Now, it appears that long wait is finally over.

According to the Choiseul Jazz & Arts Festival Committee, the district is set to host its very own Jazz and Arts event on Friday 1st May 2026 at the La Fargue Playing Field. For many residents, this is more than just another event on the calendar. It is a moment of recognition. It is a sign that Choiseul is finally being given a place on the national cultural stage.

A Promising Line-Up

The event is expected to feature a solid cast of performers, giving the occasion a rich musical blend that should appeal to a wide cross-section of patrons. Listed on the poster are:

That line-up alone suggests that patrons can expect an evening filled with talent, rhythm, steel, melody and Caribbean flair. It also gives the event a distinctly local and national feel, something that should help it connect well with the people of Choiseul.

The Sab Wisha Debate

While the excitement is real, there is already one conversation making the rounds in the district. Choiseul on the Move would have much preferred Sab Wisha as the venue for an event of this nature.

And honestly, it is not hard to understand why.

Sab Wisha carries the kind of ambience that suits Jazz beautifully. The natural setting, the breeze, the coastal charm, and the laid-back atmosphere all seem tailor-made for an arts and music event. In terms of pure vibe and visual appeal, many would argue that Sab Wisha would have delivered the perfect backdrop.

But as attractive as that option may be, logistics often decide these matters. Parking, stage setup, public access, security, vendor accommodation, crowd flow, lighting and other technical requirements can easily push organizers toward a more practical venue. In that respect, the La Fargue Playing Field likely offers the kind of space and organization needed to host a larger public event with fewer complications.

So while Sab Wisha may win on ambience, La Fargue probably wins on logistics. And for a first official staging, that may well be the safer choice.

A Big Cultural Opportunity for Choiseul

The bigger point here is that Choiseul is finally on the Jazz map. That matters.

If this event is well supported, properly organized and strongly attended, it could open the door for even more cultural activity in the district in years to come. It could strengthen the case for more investment in community events. It could give local vendors, local creatives and local supporters a chance to benefit. And just as importantly, it could show the rest of Saint Lucia that Choiseul is more than ready to host quality cultural experiences.

For too long, many in the south have felt that major national events tend to happen elsewhere. This upcoming Jazz and Arts session presents a chance to begin shifting that feeling.

Choiseul has waited patiently for its moment. Now that the opportunity is here, the hope is that the community will show up, support it, and make a strong statement: Choiseul is ready.

Final Word

For years, people begged to see Jazz come to the district. Now the promise is on the table. On Friday 1st May 2026, all roads will lead to La Fargue Playing Field. The only question now is whether Choiseul will rise to the occasion and make this first official Jazz and Arts staging a success worthy of becoming a tradition.
